Quirk: Ice Quills - Emily has the ability to grow a protective armor of ice, which is accompanied by sharp, pointy quills. This armor can be complete or partial (covering her whole body or only a part of it). She can do this voluntarily but it also happens involuntarily whenever she feels threatened/fearful. Emily is a young, fairly attractive female who stands at an even five foot and possesses a shapely, fleshy build. At 119lbs, she weighs in pretty average for a woman her age and height. She isn't muscularly-toned though, but rather soft and even a bit squishy. An excellent pillow! She's light-skinned and prone to freckling on her cheeks, the bridge of her nose, and shoulders. Soft and naturally-straight hair reaches just past her shoulder-blades, is black in color, and cut with heavy, choppy bangs. Large and sightless, her eyes are colored a pale blue and have the uncanny impression of "seeing everything" despite them not seeing anything at all. She dresses rather plainly most of the time, preferring skirts and sleeveless shirts above all else. [break][break]

✔ Direct - Emily is upfront and honest. If something happens between her and someone else, she'll address it and seek amends. If there's a problem, she doesn't let it fester in silence and uncertainty, but seeks clarity and resolution when it comes to misunderstandings. ✔ Intuitive - Emily listens to her gut-feelings. While generally an open and trusting woman, if given the slightest twinge of discomfort, she can shut down completely. ✘ Non-Opinionated - Emily isn't always confident in herself, what she thinks, and what she believes. She's a person who questions herself and doubts her stances frequently. This can be seen as a lack of conviction, and she's often hesitant to invest herself in an issue and has been accused of being unable to "decide for herself". ✘ Stubborn - Somehow in lieu of the above-mentioned lack of resolution, Emily still manages to be an infuriatingly stubborn girl at times. ✘ Cushioned - Although she's determined to become as independent and self-reliant as possible, there's a harsh reality in the fact that Emily's lived a very sheltered life until now. She comes from affluence. She's had everything she's ever wanted or ever thought about needing. The only thing money couldn't buy her, was her sight. And even that, her parents tried to buy her. Emily's trying to distance herself from her parents as much as possible, and to work for herself and live on her own means, but it's not exactly familiar ground for her.[BREAK][BREAK]

She can be overbearing to someone who isn't really used to her yet, as she has a tendency to dump a lot on someone in a very small frame of time, without pausing for breath or to give them time to respond.

Emily was born blind and this was always much harder on her parents than it ever was on her. They were devastated to know their child had a disability and... being ridiculously wealthy... they poured as much money as they could into a cure. For years, they took Emily to the best doctors and specialists across numerous regions. They hired lawyers and medical advisers to get her into the best clinical trails available. And when Emily was eight years old, one of these trials finally yielded positive results. For nearly a month — one, terrifying month — Emily gained functional sight. And although she regressed into a quiet and nervous kid, she could finally see, and her parents reveled in their long-sought accomplishment. They were convinced that their daughter would grow into her newfound abilities and return to the happy child she was before the treatments. [BREAK][BREAK]

And Emily did! Before long, Emily was coming out of her fearful shell and each day she seemed to grow braver in her new surroundings. It was only after an extensive follow-up test, that it was revealed Emily was growing more comfortable and confident as her sight regressed into nothingness again. The progressive therapy didn't have lasting effects and within the month, Emily relapsed into total blindness. Her parents were devastated. Emily was relieved.[BREAK][BREAK]

She preferred the blank void. She loved the comfort of sound, smell, and vibration. The smell of her mother's perfume, long after she'd left the room. During that one month, Emily had found lights and faces terrifying. Her mother's facial expressions were lost on her. Her tears, as she desperately pleaded with her daughter to recognize her, were scary. Her father's frown, when she didn't immediately implode with joy at the sight they'd spent so much money seeking, was dumb-founding. The flicker of the TV... the glare and buzz of overhead lights... different-colored cars and trucks and buses on the streets... large billboards, neon signs, traffic lights... all of it, so much of it.... screaming for her attention and meant to draw her eyes. Emily hated every second of it. Which she never admitted to her parents.[BREAK][BREAK]

But she suffered through reminders of that nightmarish month, time and time again, through something the doctors called "flash vision"; something they described to Emily's weeping mother and stern father as the opposite of "flash blindness". A side effect of the drugs/manipulations of the clinical trials that gave Emily her short-lived sight, every so often things would re-align. For a minute, a day, or sometimes a week, the world would suddenly flash in-front of her like a TV coming to life unexpectedly at full volume in the middle of the night. Thankfully, as the years passed, these incidents grew more and more infrequent.[BREAK][BREAK]

Emily didn't dwell on what "she was missing". She lived happily with her blindness. She did well in school and made good friends. Graduated early and got into a good school on a special grant. But her parents continued to suffer the loss of what she never had. They ignored her passions and her accomplishments and fixated instead on her shortcomings. They sought out more treatments and therapies, and were aghast and pleading when she flat-out refused to take them any longer. They continued to coddle her and cushion her from the external world. They cut up her meals. They laid out her clothes. And time and time again, there would be arguments when this love and smothering increasingly infuriated her.[BREAK][BREAK]

And one day, a typical, overblown disagreement became the straw that broke the camel's back. Claiming she was no longer a child, and that her parents would never let her live as anything but, Emily simply left. To her parent's horror, she moved into a cheap, jerry-built room above a flower shop where she helped out to pay the rent. The flowershop was close to both the university campus where she went to school and the owner was the current Grass gym leader. He took Emily under his wing and adopted her as his Gym substitute. He taught her how to battle despite her disability. Eventually, when he retired, Emily assumed his vacated position, moved into the gym, and now runs the Grass gym in addition to continuing her night-school college classes.
