Quirk: Tracker - Dane bitterly calls himself the Guild's hound-dog. His peculiar sense of smell is acute enough to track a single person's trail days, sometimes weeks, after they've passed. Like an animal, he can smell the tiniest hitch in someone's hormones/pheromones. He can sense fear, uneasiness, and whatever else... he can smell a liar from across the room. Unfortunately, there is a notable void in this ability — he is unable to track or sense anything at all from his own kin.

Unlike his brother Dino, who boasts a striking resemblance to their father, Dane takes more after their mother. He's slighter in build than his sibling, standing a solid three inches shorter than Dino and weighing a near 30lbs less (this makes him 5'8'' and around 150lbs). Dane's physically-fit and keeps his body conditioned with ample exercise (including beating the shit out of people and regularly getting the shit beat out him), but his muscle is wiry and less distinguished. He's not broad-shouldered, his physical strength isn't evident, and he comes across as a rather unimpressive guy overall, which he uses to his advantage. To even further drive this underwhelming air, most everything he does is delivered with a fair amount of nonchalance. [break][break]

Like his Mama, Dane sports a thick crop of dark auburn-colored hair, which he always keeps neat and tidy with a small amount of product and styling. It's cut short with a side-part that scatters a decent share of bangs over the right side of his forehead (never concealing his eye, but teasingly just above). Though his features aren't as masculine or strong as Dino's, and his face is longer and thinner, he's a fairly handsome character nonetheless. [break][break]

✔ Charismatic - It's a thin veneer though and rarely sincere. Dane can put on faces. If it suits his entertainment, he'll play games with people. Sell himself as person he isn't. Say the words in just the manner he knows will rub people the right way. He can smile a warm and friendly smile if he has the mind to. He can tell jokes that are just bad enough to be endearing. He can even be a convincing shoulder to cry on or an empathetic ear. But Dane can grow bored of these games rather quickly and the facade will fall flat as soon as he's decided it's not worth the effort. [break][break]

✔ Polite - Until he isn't. Just like his charm, Dane's manners are a thin, flimsy thing that can disappear completely at one wrong look or word. Dane's father has always emphasized the importance of a proper, gentlemanly image, but Dane has never given much of a shit about such things. So while he's willing to play nice, and he certainly knows how, give him the slightest of reasons to drop the dumb niceties, and he will. [break][break]

✔ Solid - He's a confident, self-assured individual, and not without good reason. Whenever Dane has the mind to actually do a job well, he can be incredibly efficient and hardworking. If he had the correct aspirations and ambitions, he could probably go rather far and achieve pretty much anything he wanted. But growing up in a crime syndicate, chasing highs and violence, he's rather shallow-sighted. [break][break]

✔ Nothing's Off The Table - There's pretty much.... nothing... Dane won't do. The dirtiest of tasks can fall in his lap and it's no blight on his conscience. He'll do the legwork, especially if he's allowed to have fun with it. There's no moral question in this guy. [break][break]

✔ Intelligent - Dane's actually quite bookish. If he had the desire for academic pursuits, he'd undoubtedly accomplish a fair bit. He has no particular care for showing off his intellectual prowess however, and doesn't even value intelligence much in others. He's capable of thinking on his feet and handling sticky situations well, though. This isn't to say he doesn't do dumb shit though, because he does. Just because he's capable of thinking thoroughly, doesn't mean he cares to.

✘ Malicious - Simply put, Dane just... isn't a nice person. He rarely has good intentions. In one mood, he might like to play with people and dig pretty deep with his toying. He can take his time, invest a bit of exploration, and even be subtle and manipulative — he'll step on toes and press boundaries to make someone uncomfortable, only to apologize and make it seem like an honest, innocuous blunder. Only to press just a bit further. But in a completely different mood, Dane can just be outright violent and sadistic. His arsenal of cruelty spans many mediums; physical, emotional, verbal, psychological... you name it. He's merciless and self-indulgent when it comes to being vile. [break][break]

✘ Apathetic - Dane doesn't feel much of anything for anyone. Don't count on him to put himself in anyone else's shoes. He's not a man of regret or attachment. He doesn't care about other people, or really himself for that matter. Not the guy to turn to for mercy or understanding. He is capable of getting along with people and enjoying company, but you probably wouldn't consider him a "friend". [break][break]

✘ Unpredictable - And since he has little regard for others or even himself, you can't always count on what Dane will do. Despite his father's respectable reputation, Dane isn't someone who could be considered dependable or loyal. And so an eye has to be kept on him sometimes, because he doesn't have any real dedication to the Guild. He does what he does because he likes doing those things. If it's entertaining and a blast, he'll do it...... there just might come a day when what's fun and entertaining is sabotaging a fellow guild member? [break][break]

✘ What Image? - Unlike his father, Dane has little value for reputation or upholding some bullshit "image". He doesn't care what people say about him or how he looks when he does something too beastly or goes too far. [break][break]

✘ Daring - If he wants to do something, then he's going to do it, even if it's not the most intelligent undertaking.

✔ Tormenting people. From just making them uncomfortable to slow, physical disfigurement. He especially likes it when he's given the freedom to have his fun as he pleases. [break][break]

✔ He actually likes people with consciences. They're cute, they're interesting, and they leave more work for him, usually. Not to mention, there's a fair amount of psychological toying to be done when a person's got some moral grounds to till. [break][break]

✔ Just chilling, sometimes. Unwinding with something to drink. [break][break]

✔ There's something exhilarating about the smell of spiking fear, especially when he's the cause. [break][break]

✔ When his Mama pampers him. Nothing like spending the day with his Mama, her cookies, and her gentle bullying.

✘ Heavy, greasy foods [break][break]

✘ Dane's a character who does things that he wants to do, so he strongly dislikes other people riding him to do this and that. It doesn't tend to be a problem if it's something he enjoys, but he might dig his heels in when tasked with something he hates. He's only obedient to a certain point and as a member of an organization, this has caused a few problems. Especially with his father. [break][break]

Dino and Dane were born two years apart in a family with heavy roots in an infamous crime syndicate, of which their father was the cold, steely spearhead. Even as kiddos, there existed little censorship for the two boys, as they were expected to grow right into their father's footsteps and it was better for them to learn the brutal way of things rather than having to unlearn the sugar-coated naivety of a coddled youth. When they were still quite young, the family's syndicate merged underneath a larger, more successful crime organization called the Guild, and their father began working for the Guild Master. Thereafter, Dino and Dane often found themselves grouped together with the powerful man's children, and despite being older than them, their father made it explicitly clear to his sons where their family was positioned in the hierarchy of things. The boys grew side by side and followed in their father's shadow until they were both widely accepted as capable and dependable members, worthy of their father's reputation and surname. Dino was generally more liked than his younger brother, despite his name being pinned with various accounts of hesitance and wavering (moments of uncertainty and questioning, that had on more than one occasion, required overcompensation from Dane himself). Dane was the more charismatic of the two, the more manipulative, and the more readily-adjusted to their family's lifestyle. Though he was more loose than Dino in terms of loyalty, dependability, and maintaining a professional, respectable image, Dane fulfilled what was asked of him with hardly a blink. [break][break]

In increased efforts to desensitize Dino, the brothers were tasked with missions of worsening brutality. And even though Dino never complained or protested, Dane was often the one stepping forward as the other man tried to still his shaking fingers. They were a good match, for what Dino lacked in resolve, Dane made up for with disgusting eagerness. Five years ago however, Dino was presumably killed and that partnership was brought to an end. And in the years to follow, Dane's place in the guild -- without his brother's presence to tether him -- grew more precarious. He became more reckless, more unmanageable. Began acting out against his father, who only ever tasked him with small tasks, and belittled him at every chance. Dane never harbored any deep-rooted attachment to the Guild or its success/failure, but he continued to work as he always had.
