She can enter the subconscious of a child plagued by nightmares and craft them into a pleasant reprieve. She can find the dream of someone she distrusts and disguise herself as someone else to finesse information. Or plant distrust of someone else in turn. She can find the dreams of her lovers, of her friends, of those who would cause her harm... there's a great number of motives she has to do so. [break][break]
Any physical damage Marina receives in the dream is real to her waking body, so the quirk is not without its cautions. This isn't such a detriment to her presently (as she can manipulate a dream fairly well), but when she was younger, she couldn't control whose dreams she invaded and wasn't able to change them. She would often be swept up in the dreams (or nightmares) herself, which led to many unfortunate, dangerous (or even embarrassing) incidents that ended with her doing her best to avoid sleep altogether. She inherited the quirk from her mother who died when she was very little, so Marina had no one to guide her. Eventually, she sought out her mother's estranged family and found aide in a maternal aunt. Now she has an expert grasp on her quirk and usually keeps herself from entering any dreams at all. Nowadays she thinks her ability to be incredibly invasive and will only seek someone's subconscious if she finds the cause necessary... personally or professionally. Truthfully, she can hardly refuse anything they ask of her. She can either be compliant and do their bidding or be killed and replaced. And Marina would do anything to keep her little kingdom and keep her it hers. The Guild has made the venue a front for an array of less legal activity as well — guns, drugs, Pokemon-trafficking, you-heckin'-name-it.... and of course, they've charged Marina with overlooking a lot of these things.[break][break]

Her mother died of illness while she and her siblings were still in diapers, and the children were left to be primarily raised by nannies and house-staff, as their father was a heavily-involved figure, who threw himself even harder into work and traveling after his wife's death. But the children grew up wanting for nothing. They had the best tutors, the best caretakers, and access to enough wealth to throw them into whatever extra-curricular activities they wished. The children were really close and always competitive with each other. [break][break]
When Marina grew into her quirk, she struggled immensely with it. After some horrifying incidents that ended with her being hurt in her dreams, she was driven to desperation and sleeplessness. She had inherited the quirk from her mother's side of the family, but her mother was an enigma to her; she knew nothing about her maternal side of the family and the estate staff knew little more than their former lady was foreign. A kind-enough woman but secretive and subdued. With some hired, investigative help, Marina eventually discovered her mother's family originated in Arafel. A humble family, the Hawkins were not affluent or noble, and were hard to track per their complete lack of connection and relevancy. Shortly after discovering her mother's family, Marina's dreamwalking came to a disastrous head — one of her primary caretakers suggested medication to help her sleep through the night, and Marina found herself walking the dream of someone she didn't know. The dream ended with Marina fighting for her life against the malicious, angry individual, who seemed to quickly discern that she was a conscious invader and not part of his subconscious. He accused her of treachery, of spying, and attacked her. Due to the medication she was unable to wake, and was only brought back to by her caretaker injecting her with more medicine after he noticed the wounds blossoming upon her waking body. After waking, Marina looked into the man of her dreams, and found him to be... a pretty big deal. A dangerous man. She decided to leave for the Arafel region and upon landing on foreign shores, she adopted her mother's surname and sought out the Hawkins family. She found her mother's sister in Caemlyn, running a small-time club called 'The Silver Dagger'. Her aunt, Evelyn, was also a dreamwalker, and taught Marina how to handle her quirk, as well as employed her at the club as a singer/dancer. The pair got along swimmingly, and in Evelyn, Marina found a sort of mother-figure. They became business partners and Marina used her wealth to build the club into what it is today — a giant entertainment venue rather than simple club. [break][break]
As they grew larger, the Guild demanded more and more of a hand in their doings, and Evelyn struggled with this. She never outright fought against the Guild's reigns, or denied them their forced shares, but she made it as difficult as she could for them to enforce their changes. And when Evelyn eventually "disappeared", Marina took sole custody of their entertainment empire and decided the only smart thing to do was play a little nicer with the Guild. She's not happy with their interfering, but is complacent enough to still be allowed to run the place. The Guild continue to take more and more. They've saddled her entertainment venue with plenty of illegal vice and forced her to oversee the dealings, as well as transformed her own mansion-home into a sort of safehous for Guild Members.

She decided to leave for the Arafel region and upon landing on foreign shores, she adopted her mother's surname and sought out the Hawkins family. She found her mother's sister in Caemlyn, running a small-time club called 'The Silver Dagger'. Her aunt, Evelyn, was also a dreamwalker, and taught Marina how to handle her quirk, as well as employed her at the club as a singer/dancer. The pair got along swimmingly, and in Evelyn, Marina found a sort of mother-figure. They became business partners and Marina used her wealth to build the club into what it is today — a giant entertainment venue rather than simple club. [break][break]
As they grew larger, the Guild demanded more and more of a hand in their doings, and Evelyn struggled with this. She never outright fought against the Guild's reigns, or denied them their forced shares, but she made it as difficult as she could for them to enforce their changes. And when Evelyn eventually "disappeared", Marina took sole custody of their entertainment empire and decided the only smart thing to do was play a little nicer with the Guild. She's not happy with their interfering, but is complacent enough to still be allowed to run the place. The Guild continue to take more and more. They've saddled her entertainment venue with plenty of illegal vice and forced her to oversee the dealings, as well as transformed her own mansion-home into a sort of safehous for Guild Members.
